Restoration File Cabinet Furniture 1940’s

Restoring file cabinet furniture of the 1940s, which we intend to give it its splendor, without losing that range of colors iridescent use and the passage of time, which I particularly love. In the picture that I show you can see that he arrived quite deteriorated and yes, full of wormwood, with which we had to disinfect it in order to restore it. If you look at the envelope of the furniture, as it belonged to a modular with several pieces, of which we only have this centerpiece, on the side of both sides, there is no molding.

We are lucky that the piece had a molding on the back, so we have removed that molding and we have cut by making the sides of both sides leaving the back flush with the wood file cabinets and the sides with molding. You can see the change later. The top plate of the envelope was totally raised and very deteriorated, so we have changed the sheet for another one of beech, which is the material of the furniture. First Step: we are going to disinfect the furniture, for this we perform a test with auras and a white cloth and we see that we remove wax, with which we had to clean all the wax furniture first.

Then we had to remove the old shellac, since it protects the wood and prevents the disinfectant product from penetrating the same, using a green sponge and ammonia to leave the drawers without the varnish. Once we have cleaned the remains of previous varnishes, we started the disinfection. For this, we used Xilamon by injecting the product into a hole with a needle. After this step, we began to soak the filing cabinets walmart with the same product. Wrap in painter’s plastic, and leave it as watertight as possible so that the steam will kill all insects.

Second Step: After fifteen days of disinfection, we proceed to recover the piece, the first is to unify the envelope of the piece of solid wood file cabinet with the same color as the piece, and for it we have prepared a dye in walnut, with a little orange to get honey color aged wood that has the original wood. In this image we see the envelope with the profiles already glued and as we begin to dye the wood. Before that, we have closed the pore with steel wool 000 to get the color to penetrate evenly. The process of dyeing the wood must be fast, we apply the dye and we remove the excess with a clean rag so that there are no remains.
